March 2009

In the Spring of 2009, the scuba club, 18 strong, went to visit the warm Florida Keys for a Spring Break reprieve.

During the trip, the club stayed at Key Largo Kampground and  went on 9 dives, 7 of which were in in Key Largo and 2 of which are in Looe Key off the shores of Big Pine Key.

During the dives, the club swam through underwater caves, swam with sharks, fish, octopi, turtles, lobsters, crabs, jellyfish, barracuda, dolphins, and rays. Some underwater landmarks we swam on were the wreck of the Benwood, French Reef, Molasses Reef, Elbow Reef, and posed with the Christ of the Abyss.

The trip wasn't all about diving; we wanted to make sure we enjoyed as much of the warm weather and sea that we could. In the campsite, the club played mid-night volleyball, shuffle-board, cards, and cooked. For extra curricular events beyond diving the club went to Founder's Park to sail hobie-kats and sunbathe and later in the week went to hand feed tarpon at Robbie's Marina.

Following our Looe Key trip, the club spent the evening in Key West for some spring break nightlife.

Below is a listing of pictures and a video contributed by various members of the club for this momentous trip.
